Latitude 13 Degrees, located in Lilongwe, is seeking a suitably qualified, self-motivated, and dedicated individual to fill the position of Waiter/Waitress.
Position Summary
The Waiter/Waitress will take orders and serve food and beverages to guests in the restaurant. The role requires ensuring guest satisfaction, delivering excellent service, maintaining professionalism at all times, and supporting profitability in line with budget expectations.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare tables by setting up linens, silverware, and glasses.
- Check dishes and kitchenware for cleanliness and presentation; report issues to the supervisor.
- Arrange table settings and maintain a tidy dining area before, during, and after service.
- Greet and escort guests to their tables.
- Present menus and provide detailed information (e.g., portions, ingredients, allergies).
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of menu items and daily specials.
- Explain menu items, including preparation, ingredients, and presentation.
- Answer guest inquiries about food and beverages.
- Offer recommendations and upsell menu items when appropriate.
- Take accurate food and beverage orders, including special requests.
- Verify guests’ IDs for alcoholic beverage service.
- Work with bartenders to fulfill beverage orders.
- Coordinate with the kitchen team to process and expedite orders.
- Apply proper food handling and service techniques to maintain hygiene standards.
- Ensure guest satisfaction with food, beverages, and service.
- Monitor guest needs and respond promptly.
- Handle complaints professionally and politely.
- Deliver bills and collect payments.
- Clear tables and return items to the kitchen for cleaning.
- Dispose of waste according to hotel procedures.
- Comply with safety, health, and hygiene policies.
Skills and Specifications
- Strong knowledge of food and beverage operations.
- Excellent organizational and multitasking skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Team player with ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Attention to detail.
- Knowledge of drink mixing tools and techniques.
- Ability to handle money and operate a POS system.
- High standards of grooming and personal hygiene.
- Integrity, honesty, and accountability.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Customer-focused with patience and attentiveness.
- Knowledge of hygiene and sanitation standards.
- Working knowledge of beer, wine, liquor, and beverages.
Qualifications
- Secondary school certificate required.
- Restaurant experience is an added advantage.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a similar role.
Working Conditions
- Requires standing for long hours; must be physically fit.
- Ability to work both day and night shifts.
- Must be able to lift heavy trays and food & beverage items.
