The position of Waiter/Waitress falls under the Food and Beverage Department and reports directly to the Food and Beverage Supervisor. The duty stations for this position are Mchinji and Mafumu, where four (4) positions are available, comprising of three (3) positions at Mchinji and one (1) position in Lilongwe.
Responsibilities or duties
- Welcome guests warmly, escort them to their tables where applicable, present menus professionally, and provide accurate information on menu items, promotions, and daily specials to enhance the dining experience.
- Receive and accurately record food and beverage orders, communicate orders promptly to the kitchen and bar, and ensure that meals are served correctly, efficiently, and within established service standards.
- Monitor guests throughout their dining experience, respond promptly to requests, resolve minor concerns professionally, and escalate unresolved issues to the Restaurant Supervisor where necessary.
- Prepare dining areas before service by arranging tables, chairs, cutlery, crockery, glassware, and other dining equipment to meet the hotel’s presentation and hygiene standards.
- Clear tables after service, maintain cleanliness of the restaurant and service stations, and ensure all dining equipment is properly cleaned and stored after each service period.
- Maintain exceptional standards of customer service, professionalism, teamwork, and personal grooming while complying with food safety and hygiene requirements and performing any other duties assigned by the Restaurant Supervisor.
Qualifications or requirements
- Applicants must possess a minimum of a Certificate in Food and Beverage Service, Hospitality Management, Hotel Operations, or a related field from a recognized institution.
- Applicants must demonstrate excellent customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Applicants must maintain a professional appearance and positive attitude when interacting with guests.
- Applicants must be capable of working efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Applicants must possess good attention to detail and maintain high standards of personal grooming and hygiene.
- Applicants must be willing to work flexible hours, including shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
Experience needed
Applicants must have at least one (1) year of relevant work experience in a hotel, restaurant, lodge, or similar hospitality establishment.
